Indonesia reports 467 new coronavirus cases, 28 deaths

JAKARTA (Jakarta Post/Asian News Network): Covid-19 (coronavirus) cases in Indonesia rose by 467 within one day to 26,940, with the death toll adding by 28 to 1,641, Achmad Yurianto, a Health Ministry official, said at a press conference here on Monday (June 1).

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, the ministry’s disease control and prevention director general, Yurianto, added that 28 more people had died of the disease, bringing the death toll to 1,641.

According to him, 329 more people had been discharged from hospitals, making the total number of recovered patients stand at 7,637.

The capital city recorded 137 new confirmed cases, bringing the total tally to 7,485. Meanwhile, East Java reported 65 new cases, Papua 50, South Sulawesi 45 and West Java 34.

The virus has spread to all of the country’s 34 provinces.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s administration is preparing for the so-called “new normal”, under which the public would be allowed to resume their routines.

More than 300,000 military and police personnel have been posted in nearly 2,000 places, including shopping malls, traditional markets, and tourism spots in four provinces and 25 regencies or cities. – Jakarta Post/Asian News Network
